FBR Allows Monthly Instalments for Taxes on Imported Mobile Phones in Pakistan

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has allowed eligible individuals to pay sales tax on imported mobile phones in monthly instalments to facilitate device registration. All instalments must be paid by June 30, and late payments could lead to phone blocking.

Urdu Report Desk

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has allowed eligible individuals in Pakistan to pay sales tax on imported mobile phones in monthly instalments, making it easier to register devices that are not yet registered.

Under the revised procedure, the outstanding sales tax can be divided into equal monthly instalments over the remaining months of the financial year.

Applicants Must Select Instalment Option

People seeking to register their imported mobile phones must select the instalment payment option when submitting their applications through the Device Identification Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS).

The number of instalments will depend on the number of months remaining in the financial year when the application is submitted.

The first instalment must be paid through the Payment Slip Identification (PSID) generated at the time of application. Subsequent instalments must be paid monthly by their respective due dates using separate PSIDs.

All Instalments Must Be Paid by June 30

Under the revised procedure, applicants must clear all instalments by June 30. They can also pay their remaining instalments before the respective due dates.

Applicants who fail to pay an instalment on time may be declared defaulters. In such cases, the relevant mobile phone may be classified as unregistered and blocked through DIRBS.

The revised procedure also states that a payment delay will make the entire outstanding sales tax immediately payable. The facility to pay in instalments will also be withdrawn.

An Alternative to Upfront Tax Payment

The new arrangement gives eligible users an alternative to paying the full sales tax upfront when registering imported mobile phones.

However, users must make payments by the prescribed deadlines to maintain their devices’ registration status and avoid possible blocking.
