Radio Pakistan Attack Case: Challan Filed Against Sohail Afridi and Four Others

Police have submitted a challan in the Radio Pakistan attack case in Peshawar, naming Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and four other political figures as accused on the basis of forensic and NADRA reports.

Urdu Report Desk

Five people, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, have been named as accused in the May 9 Radio Pakistan attack case in Peshawar.

The investigating officer has submitted the case challan to the District Public Prosecutor. The challan also names former provincial ministers Kamran Bangash and Taimur Jhagra.

The challan was prepared in light of forensic analysis and reports from the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), according to police.

Other Political Figures Named

The four other individuals named in the case are former provincial ministers Taimur Saleem Jhagra and Kamran Bangash, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Peshawar district president Irfan Saleem, and Aamir Chamkani.

Police said the Punjab Forensic Science Agency and NADRA reports were used to assess the alleged presence of the five individuals at the scene. Investigators also analysed videos and photographs related to the incident before naming them in the case.

Background of the Radio Pakistan Attack Case

The case concerns the alleged attack, vandalism and arson at the Radio Pakistan building in Peshawar during protests on May 9 and 10, 2023, following the arrest of PTI founder Imran Khan.

Several PTI workers had already been named in the case. The five political figures were subsequently included on the basis of forensic findings and NADRA reports.

Next Court Hearing

Progress has been made in preparing and submitting the challan as part of the ongoing legal proceedings. The next hearing in the case has reportedly been adjourned until October 28.

Defence Raises Questions Over Videos

The defence has previously raised objections regarding the identification of individuals in certain videos and whether the footage is directly connected to the incident.

Being named in the case does not establish guilt. The legal status of the allegations will be determined through court proceedings and an examination of the evidence.
