The Dubai Electronic Security Center (DESC) has introduced SARAAB, an advanced artificial intelligence model capable of detecting deepfake content by analyzing a video of just seven seconds.
According to the center, SARAAB is the first open-source deepfake detection AI model developed by a government entity in the Arab region.
The model was unveiled on September 16, 2026, on the opening day of GISEC Global 2026 at the Dubai Exhibition Centre, Dubai Expo City.
Developed by Emirati Experts
The Dubai Electronic Security Center said SARAAB was developed entirely by a team of Emirati experts.
The model is designed to help address rapidly evolving cybersecurity threats through artificial intelligence and improve the ability to identify trustworthy content in the digital environment.
91 Percent Detection Accuracy
According to tests conducted by the center, SARAAB achieved up to 91 percent accuracy in detecting deepfake content.
The model also recorded 89 percent accuracy when tested on data that was not used during its training.
DESC said comparative evaluations showed that SARAAB performed better than other open-source deepfake detection models included in the tests.
Detection from Short Videos
One of SARAAB’s key features is its ability to identify fake or manipulated content from videos as short as seven seconds.
According to the center, other open-source models tested generally required videos of 15 seconds or longer for effective analysis.
The ability to detect deepfakes in short videos is considered important as brief videos increasingly go viral on social media and other digital platforms, making it more difficult for users to distinguish authentic content from AI-generated or manipulated material.
SARAAB to Be Released as Open Source
The Dubai Electronic Security Center plans to make SARAAB available to the public as an open-source model in the near future.
The model will be made available through Hugging Face and GitHub, allowing AI engineers, cybersecurity experts and researchers to test it and contribute to improving its capabilities.
Global Collaboration on Deepfake Detection
According to the center, the open-source release is intended to promote global collaboration among AI and cybersecurity experts and support the development of more effective technologies for detecting deepfake content.
The development of SARAAB is being described as an important step in efforts to strengthen the United Arab Emirates’ local cybersecurity capabilities.
DESC aims to use artificial intelligence to address emerging digital threats and further strengthen the country’s cybersecurity.
