Rawalpindi’s Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) has sentenced 47 proclaimed offenders in the May 9 GHQ attack case to 10 years in prison each.
After completing the trial, the court announced its verdict, sentencing all 47 convicts to 10 years in prison and ordering the confiscation of their properties.
Declared Key Accused
ATC Judge Amjad Ali Shah, while announcing the verdict, stated that the accused were found involved in the planning and conspiracy behind the May 9 incidents. According to the judgment, the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) had also identified these individuals as key accused in the planning of the May 9 events.
Those sentenced include Umar Ayub, Ali Amin Gandapur, Murad Saeed, Zartaj Gul, Sheikh Rashid, Zulfi Bukhari, Shandana Gulzar, Shahbaz Gill, Hammad Azhar, Azam Swati, Ahmed Chattha, Rai Hassan Nawaz, Rai Murtaza, Shaukat Ali Bhatti, Usman Saeed Basra, Ijaz Khan Jazi, Shibli Faraz and Kanwal Shauzab, among others.
Separate Trials
According to the prosecution, statements of witnesses were recorded during the case and separate trials were conducted against the accused.
The court stated that the accused were found involved in attacks on the GHQ gate, Hamza Camp and Army Museum. They were also accused of arson, vandalism and damaging important government installations.
A total of 118 accused were named in the case. Some were declared proclaimed offenders during the trial, while several others did not appear before any court after the registration of the case.
The court’s verdict has once again brought the legal proceedings against political leaders and other individuals in the May 9-related cases into the spotlight.
