The government paid Rs472 billion to 105 Independent Power Producers (IPPs) in capacity payments from April to June, according to government documents.
The payments were made despite continued power shortages and load shedding across the country. The amount was recovered from electricity consumers through their power bills.
Rs472 Billion Paid to 105 IPPs
According to the government document, 105 IPPs received Rs472 billion in capacity payments during the three-month period from April to June.
The document listed payments to several power producers. China Fuel Energy received Rs32.81 billion, while Shanghai Energy was paid Rs26 billion.
Nuclear One received Rs36 billion, and Nuclear Power Plant Three received Rs37 billion in capacity payments.
Port Qasim Power received Rs26 billion, while Thar Coal Block One was paid Rs29 billion. WAPDA Hydel received Rs35 billion.
Payments Continue Despite Power Shortfall
The document stated that severe load shedding has continued in the country for the past one and a half months despite the capacity payments.
According to the document, the electricity shortfall remained between 3,000 and 4,000 megawatts during the period.
The payments were made to ensure capacity-related obligations to IPPs, while electricity consumers continued to bear the cost through their bills.
