Islamabad is set for a major expansion of its road and recreational infrastructure after the Capital Development Authority (CDA) approved a Rs. 24.5 billion 11th Avenue project and three new sports arenas with a combined estimated cost of Rs. 951 million.
11th Avenue Project Approved
The CDA’s Development Working Party (DWP) approved the PC-I for the 7.5-kilometre 11th Avenue project, which will establish a new east-west link between IJP Road and Margalla Avenue.
The project is targeted for completion within one year after construction begins.
The planned avenue will have three lanes on each side, while around 17 bridges and overpasses will be constructed to improve traffic flow and connectivity across Islamabad, according to CDA engineering officials.
Route to Connect Major Sectors
The route will start from IJP Road and pass between I-10 and I-11, G-10 and G-11, and F-10 and F-11 before connecting with the E-11 interchange.
The section between E-11 and D-12 has already been completed and is known as Iran Avenue.
Three New Sports Arenas Approved
The DWP also approved funding for three new sports arenas in Islamabad at a combined estimated cost of Rs. 951 million.
The F-8 Markaz arena will cost Rs. 307 million, while Rs. 327 million has been allocated for the D-12/1 facility and Rs. 317 million for the proposed G-11/3 arena.
Sports Facilities Planned
The new sports complexes will include swimming pools, indoor gyms, futsal courts, cricket cages, padel courts, basketball courts, multi-sports halls and indoor play areas for children.
Each facility is also targeted for completion within one year after construction begins.
CDA’s Objective
A CDA official said the sports arenas are intended to address the limited availability of quality indoor sports facilities in Islamabad.
The facilities are expected to bring multiple sporting activities together at dedicated locations, supporting youth coaching, family recreation and healthier community activities.
The approvals represent another major expansion of Islamabad’s infrastructure, with the 11th Avenue project focused on improving connectivity and the new sports arenas aimed at expanding access to modern recreational facilities.
