Urdu Report Desk

Pakistan and Iran have temporarily suspended trade activities and cross-border movement along their land border due to security concerns and technical issues, with officials from both countries working to resolve the situation and resume normal operations.

According to Business Recorder, Pakistani authorities said the suspension aims to strengthen border management and improve counterterrorism measures.

Security Measures Behind the Suspension

Bakhtiar Ismail, Deputy Commissioner of Balochistan’s border district of Chagai, said in a social media statement that trade activities with Iran had been temporarily halted for security reasons.

He said the measure was intended to improve border management and strengthen efforts to combat terrorism.

Ismail added that trade crossings would reopen once all necessary and effective security arrangements had been completed.

Iran Confirms Talks With Pakistan

In Tehran, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei told the official Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) that cross-border movement and the exchange of goods had been temporarily suspended due to certain technical issues and precautionary measures.

Baghaei said the relevant authorities in both countries remained in close contact and were continuing bilateral consultations to find a prompt and lasting solution.

He added that discussions were aimed at restoring normal activities at border crossings as soon as possible.

Traders Warn of Financial Losses

The sudden suspension of cross-border movement has raised concerns among local traders, who warn that a prolonged disruption could cause significant financial losses for businesses and freight operators.

Traders have urged both governments to finalise the necessary security and administrative arrangements without delay and restore economic and commercial movement across the border.
