The suspect had allegedly run over the teenager, identified as Waseem Abbas, on Monday. According to reports, the boy had been unwilling to continue working for Nazir because of his alleged inhumane treatment.
Police Encounter Near Bahawalpur
District Officer of the Crime Control Department (CCD), Irfan Akbar, said Nazir was arrested after the incident and presented before a court. A judicial magistrate subsequently granted police a four-day remand, but the suspect escaped from custody.
Akbar said police attempted to stop two men riding a motorcycle on the Northern Bypass in Bahawalpur. The suspects allegedly opened fire while attempting to flee.
During the exchange of fire, Nazir was killed by a bullet fired by his own accomplice, while the other suspect escaped, according to the CCD district officer.
The suspect had also been assaulted by lawyers while being brought before the court, according to reports.
What Happened in Multan?
The case concerns the death of 15-year-old Waseem Abbas, an orphan who lived at an orphanage run by a non-governmental organisation.
Several CCTV recordings from a private housing society in Multan showed the teenager being chased before a car ran over him. The footage captured the vehicle pursuing the boy and striking him at speed, killing him at the scene.
The suspects allegedly attempted to portray the incident as an accident. However, CCTV footage from multiple camera angles showed the teenager running away as the suspects pursued him before the fatal collision.
Police launched an investigation following the incident and arrested Tawqeer Nazir, registering a murder case against him.
Boy Had Been Sent to Learn Electrical Work
Multan City Police Officer Akhtar Farooq said Waseem had been sent to work with Nazir seven days before the incident to learn electrical work.
Nazir reportedly undertook electrical contracts at various buildings, and children from the same orphanage had previously received vocational training under him.
According to police, the teenager was pursued after he left the job, and a car was driven over him.
