Saudi Arabia has launched a new digital service to help Umrah pilgrims check crowd levels at the Grand Mosque in Makkah and the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah.
The service is designed to help visitors plan their movements, choose suitable routes and avoid heavily crowded areas while performing their religious rituals.
Crowd Updates Around the Kaaba and Safa-Marwa Walkway
The platform allows pilgrims to check crowd conditions around the Kaaba and along the Safa-Marwa walkway before beginning their rituals.
Access to this information can help visitors choose appropriate times and routes, potentially reducing congestion at busy locations and improving the flow of movement within the holy sites.
More Than 100,000 Routes and 950 Landmarks
The digital service includes an interactive map featuring more than 100,000 routes to help visitors navigate the holy sites.
It also identifies around 950 landmarks and points of interest, making it easier for pilgrims to locate important facilities and nearby services.
Accessible Routes for People with Disabilities
The platform also includes accessibility features for people with disabilities and visitors who have difficulty moving around. It identifies routes that may better suit their mobility needs.
These features are intended to make it easier for visitors to reach different areas of the holy mosques and navigate their surroundings.
Technology to Improve Crowd Management
Managing the movement of large numbers of pilgrims is particularly important during busy periods. Providing updated crowd information can help visitors choose alternative routes and reduce pressure on congested areas.
By bringing crowd updates, navigation tools and landmark information together in one platform, the service aims to make movement around the holy sites more convenient and organised.
The initiative is intended to support both local and international pilgrims performing Umrah and visiting the holy sites in Makkah and Madinah.
