Iranian Supreme National Security Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei has expressed hope that the four-nation meeting in Tehran will pave the way for meaningful change and practical cooperation among Iran, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye.
In an interview, Rezaei said cooperation among the four countries should have begun much earlier. He described the discussions as positive and said a new atmosphere appeared to be emerging in the region.
Positive Response from Participants
Rezaei said the three other leaders participating in the meeting had also adopted a positive approach. According to him, participants shared the view that unity among the four countries could help resolve many regional problems.
He expressed hope that the meeting would translate into concrete steps towards stronger cooperation rather than remain limited to discussions.
Call for Greater Unity Among Muslim Countries
The Iranian official said the issue of cooperation had been discussed at meetings of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation and other gatherings of Muslim countries.
However, he said external interference had prevented practical steps towards achieving genuine unity among these countries.
Tehran Meeting Focuses on Regional Security
The four-nation meeting involving Iran, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye concluded in Tehran on October 26, 2026, with participants agreeing to continue consultations aimed at promoting regional peace and security.
According to the meeting’s statement, Rezaei hosted the gathering, which was also attended by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
Pakistan’s Field Marshal Asim Munir, Saudi Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman and Türkiye’s intelligence chief Ibrahim Kalin also participated in the meeting.
The gathering was proposed by Field Marshal Asim Munir during his recent visit to Iran, according to Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei.
Diplomatic Efforts to Reduce Regional Tensions
Before the meeting, Baghaei said the discussions would cover regional and security issues, including recent military tensions between Iran and the United States.
Saudi Deputy Minister for Public Diplomacy Dr Raed Karmali said Prince Khalid bin Salman would lead the Saudi delegation during meetings in Tehran involving representatives of the countries participating in the joint defence arrangement and Iranian officials.
Karmali said the visit was part of continued efforts to reduce tensions among parties involved in the ongoing crisis, encourage dialogue and support diplomatic solutions. He added that the efforts were intended to support mediation initiatives being pursued by Qatar and Pakistan.
Rezaei also said the visit by senior officials from countries associated with the Mecca defence arrangement demonstrated that US threats had not had a significant impact on the world.
