Pakistan’s premium motorcycle market could see a major shift as Buraq Automobile plans to establish a local assembly plant for Italian and Chinese motorcycles, potentially lowering prices by hundreds of thousands of rupees.
According to Chief Executive Officer Mobeen Ahmed, the plant is expected to be ready by December 2026, with production scheduled to begin in January 2027. The company currently imports and distributes motorcycles from Benelli, Moto Morini and QJMOTOR.
Moto Morini to Lead the First Phase
The first phase of local assembly will focus on Moto Morini motorcycles, starting with the Alltrhike 450 adventure bike, followed by a 300cc model.
Buraq Automobile also plans to assemble motorcycles from another international brand, although the company has not yet disclosed its name.
Alltrhike 450 Could Become Significantly Cheaper
Mobeen Ahmed said local assembly could reduce motorcycle prices by lowering import duties.
He cited the Alltrhike 450 as an example, saying its price could fall from Rs. 2.6 million as a fully imported motorcycle to a tentative Rs. 1.995 million after local assembly. This would represent a reduction of approximately 23%.
Proposed Auto Policy Could Bring Further Price Cuts
Ahmed said prices could fall further if the government approves a proposed auto policy that reduces duties on completely knocked-down (CKD) motorcycle kits.
He added that any additional duty relief would be passed on to customers, potentially making the motorcycles more affordable.
EFI Motorcycles Also Planned
Buraq Automobile also intends to introduce locally assembled motorcycles equipped with electronic fuel injection (EFI) technology.
Ahmed expects these models to attract buyers through improved fuel economy, better acceleration and greater power. However, he acknowledged that repair facilities for EFI systems remain limited in Pakistan.
