ISLAMABAD: Google’s Vice President for Global Affairs, Wilson White, has announced that all students in Pakistan will receive a one-year free subscription to Google Gemini, giving them access to advanced artificial intelligence tools for education, research and digital skills development.
The announcement came as Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated Google’s first local office in Pakistan on Tuesday. A nine-member Google delegation, led by Wilson White, also met with the prime minister to discuss digital transformation, IT exports, youth digital skills and cooperation in the technology sector.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, US Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker also accompanied the Google delegation during the meeting.

One-Year Free Gemini Subscription for Students
Wilson White announced that Google Gemini will be available to all Pakistani students free of charge for one year.
The initiative aims to provide students with greater access to artificial intelligence tools and help them benefit from AI in education, research and the development of digital skills.
The announcement comes as Google expands its presence in Pakistan with the opening of its local office, marking a significant step in the company’s engagement with the country’s growing digital economy.
Pakistan an Important Market for Google
Wilson White described the opening of Google’s local office in Pakistan as a major development, saying the company has been investing in and supporting various sectors of the country for more than a decade.
He said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s ambition to make Pakistan a $30 billion hub for IT exports is aligned with Google’s goals for the country.
According to White, Google has contributed to more than Rs3.9 trillion in economic activity for local businesses and households in Pakistan over the past decade, supporting more than 960,000 jobs.
He said Google is focusing on three major areas to support Pakistan’s IT export ambitions: investing in the digital skills of Pakistanis, supporting manufacturing and infrastructure for hardware exports, and investing in local businesses.
More Than One Million Pakistanis Receive Digital Skills Training
The Google representative said the company has helped improve the digital skills of more than one million Pakistanis through career certificates and programs conducted in collaboration with schools and teachers.
He emphasized that Pakistan’s digital transformation can only achieve its ambitious goals if sufficient investment is made in the education and digital capabilities of its people, particularly young Pakistanis.
The opening of Google’s local office and the free Gemini offer for students are being viewed as significant developments for Pakistan’s technology sector and its efforts to expand digital skills among the country’s young population.
