Bollywood actress Manisha Koirala has recalled the difficult and deeply lonely period she went through after being diagnosed with cancer, describing the first night after her diagnosis as the “loneliest and longest night” of her life.
Koirala was diagnosed with stage four ovarian cancer in 2012. During treatment, she underwent an 11-hour surgery followed by several rounds of chemotherapy. She was declared cancer-free in 2013 and has since spoken openly about her illness, recovery and changing outlook on life.

In a recent interview with Indian media, Koirala spoke about the intense loneliness she experienced during her cancer journey.
She said that on the night she was informed about her cancer diagnosis, she was overwhelmed by fear and loneliness. At the time, she felt that she might be dying.
The actress said the experience made her realize how isolated a patient can feel while dealing with cancer.
Koirala also discussed changes in her social life. She found it difficult to attend Bollywood events and interact with people, although she continued attending such gatherings because they were part of her professional commitments.
She described that period as one of the most frightening and painful times of her life. She said people sometimes learn to accept difficult circumstances because life is a combination of different emotions and experiences. She also noted that a person can feel lonely even while surrounded by a crowd.

Koirala was most recently seen in the Netflix series Heeramandi, where her performance received considerable appreciation.
She also recently attended Anushka Summit in Kathmandu, where she discussed the role of Generation Z in politics and the responsibilities of young people.
The discussion also touched on political developments in Nepal and youth-led protests in India. Koirala expressed support for the energy of the younger generation and its willingness to speak out against corruption.
She said countries need wisdom and experience, while accountability and practical steps to address public concerns are equally important.
