The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has announced a new facility for women over 18 who have been unable to obtain computerized national identity cards due to the absence of birth certificates.
Under the new facility, married women over the age of 18 can apply for a CNIC using a computerized Nikahnama.
Biometric Verification Requirement
The applicant must be accompanied by either her husband or one of her parents for biometric verification during the application process.
The facility is intended to provide an alternative route for married women facing difficulties obtaining identity cards because they do not have a birth certificate.
Requirements for Unmarried Women
NADRA has also specified requirements for unmarried women over 18 seeking to obtain an identity card.
An unmarried female applicant must have the CNIC of a parent, sister, or brother. The applicant’s parent, sister, or brother must also be present for biometric verification.
The new requirements provide separate procedures for married and unmarried women based on the documents and family verification available to them.
