Punjab to Launch Crackdown on Token and Property Tax Defaulters

Urdu Report Desk

Punjab’s Excise and Taxation Department has decided to launch a province-wide crackdown on token tax and property tax defaulters from October 1, 2026.

The department said vehicle owners can pay their outstanding token tax under routine payment terms until September 30. After the deadline, defaulters will have to pay the outstanding tax along with an equal amount as a penalty, effectively imposing a 100% penalty on unpaid token tax.

Property Tax Concession

Property tax defaulters have also been given until September 30 to benefit from a 5% concession. Stricter recovery measures will be introduced after the deadline.

According to the Excise Department, commercial properties that have remained in default for several years are expected to face sealing action from October 1.

Commercial Properties Targeted

Officials said the enforcement drive will particularly target commercial properties that have failed to pay taxes for several years.

The department has urged vehicle owners and property tax defaulters to clear their outstanding dues before September 30 to avoid additional penalties and recovery action.

Online Payment Facility

Motor vehicle taxation in Punjab is administered under relevant provincial laws. Citizens can check their outstanding dues and make payments online through the Excise Department’s official website.

The Punjab Excise and Taxation Department is also responsible for urban immovable property tax, motor vehicle registration and motor vehicle taxation across the province.

Rs. 125 Billion Revenue Target

Officials said the recovery campaign is part of the department’s efforts to achieve its Rs. 125 billion revenue target. All possible measures are being taken to recover outstanding dues from defaulters.
