ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is celebrating its 79th Independence Day today with great national spirit and enthusiasm. Citizens in Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi and other cities are waving national flags and chanting “Pakistan Zindabad,” while rallies, national song programmes and other celebrations are being held across the country.
In Lahore, Independence Day fireworks were held at five locations, including Liberty, Iqbal Park, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Dolmen Mall Defence and Adda Plot. Independence Day celebrations were also held with great enthusiasm in Islamabad, Bahria Town and Karachi, while musical programmes were organised in different areas.
The day began with special prayers for the security, peace, prosperity and progress of Pakistan. A 31-gun salute was held in the federal capital, while 21-gun salutes were observed in the provincial capitals.
President and Prime Minister Congratulate Nation
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated the nation on Independence Day and paid tribute to those who made sacrifices for the creation of Pakistan. Both leaders called for national unity and collective efforts for the country’s development, peace and prosperity.
President Zardari said freedom was not only a blessing but also a responsibility, while Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed his commitment to making Pakistan a stronger and developed country.
