Islamabad: Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja has inaugurated the National Cyber Security Operations Centre (NCSOC) at National CERT, marking a major development in Pakistan’s efforts to strengthen cybersecurity and digital protection.
The National Cyber Security Operations Centre aims to enhance the country’s cyber resilience, protect critical infrastructure and safeguard citizens’ data. The centre will improve Pakistan’s ability to monitor, detect and respond to cyber threats in real time.
Cybersecurity in the Digital Age
Addressing the ceremony, Shaza Fatima Khawaja said that Pakistan’s digital government, e-governance and citizen-focused online services are expanding, making it essential to place cybersecurity at the heart of digital transformation.
The federal minister said the NCSOC represents a new dimension of protecting freedom and sovereignty in the digital age.
She also paid tribute to Pakistan’s leadership on Independence Day and congratulated the nation on the occasion.
Pakistan to Strengthen Cyber Defence Capabilities
Shaza Fatima said Pakistan’s cyber defence capabilities remained active during the heightened cyber threat environment surrounding Marka-e-Haq.
During that period, efforts were made to monitor malicious cyber activity, protect critical information infrastructure and maintain the continuity of essential digital services.
She said the experience demonstrated that national security in the modern era is no longer limited to geographical borders, as protecting the digital domain has also become an important part of national security.
Focus on Domestic Cybersecurity Capabilities
The federal minister said that independence in the digital age is not only about providing services online but also about having the ability to protect those services through Pakistan’s own human resources, institutions and modern operational capabilities.
During the ceremony, Dr. Haider Abbas, Director General National CERT, briefed participants on Pakistan’s progress in the field of cybersecurity.
He also highlighted Pakistan’s Tier-1, Role-Modelling status in the ITU Global Cybersecurity Index 2024 and the Pakistan Information Security Framework 2026.

The establishment of the National Cyber Security Operations Centre has been described as an important step towards building a secure, resilient and sovereign digital ecosystem in Pakistan.
