The Federal Constitutional Court has issued a notice to the Attorney General in a case seeking equal medical facilities for all prisoners on the pattern of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan.
Justice Amir Farooq observed during the hearing that treating a prisoner at a private hospital was contrary to the jail manual.
The case was heard by a three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Aminuddin Khan. The court issued a notice to the Attorney General seeking assistance on the matter.
Court Questions Private Hospital Treatment
During the hearing, Justice Amir Farooq questioned why prisoners were being treated at private hospitals instead of government healthcare facilities.
“Treatment at a private hospital is against the jail manual. Why a private hospital? Why can’t treatment be provided at PIMS or Polyclinic?” he asked.
Justice Ali Baqar Najafi observed that the jail manual was clear and that prisoners should not be subjected to unequal treatment.
“The jail manual is clear. There should be no unequal treatment. All prisoners should be treated equally,” he remarked.
Notices Issued in Prisoners’ Appeals
The Federal Constitutional Court also issued notices to the other parties in connection with the appeals of three prisoners.
The court adjourned the hearing until tomorrow.
