The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has advised smartphone, tablet and computer users to keep location tracking services enabled to help locate their devices if they are lost or stolen.
The authority issued device management and security guidelines aimed at helping families prevent unauthorized access and protect personal information stored on their devices.
Enable Location Tracking
PTA recommended enabling services such as Find My iPhone and Google Find My Device. These features can help users locate lost or stolen devices.
Strengthen Device Security
The authority advised users to protect their devices with strong passwords or biometric authentication, including fingerprints and facial recognition.
Users were also urged to regularly install the latest software updates and security patches to reduce security risks.
Keep Important Data Backed Up
PTA recommended backing up important files, documents, photographs and contact numbers to secure cloud services or external storage.
The authority also advised users to maintain backups to help protect important information in case a device is lost, stolen or becomes inaccessible.
Use Parental Controls
Parents were advised to use built-in parental control features to manage children’s screen time, restrict access to applications and prevent exposure to inappropriate content.
Remove Personal Data Before Handing Over Devices
PTA urged users to remove all personal information before selling, donating or handing over a device for repairs.
According to the authority, performing a factory reset can help reduce the risk of personal information being accessed or misused after the device is no longer in the user’s possession.
