Former US President Bill Clinton has expressed frustration with people who criticise Muslims simply because of their religion, urging greater understanding and respect among people of different faiths and cultures.
Speaking at an event at a church in South Florida, Clinton referred to the teachings of the Quran and recalled how his daughter had encouraged him to read the holy book after studying it herself at the age of 15.
Clinton Says Daughter Introduced Him to Quran’s Message
Clinton said his daughter had read the Quran from beginning to end when she was 15 and subsequently encouraged him to read it.
According to Clinton, she explained that the Quran teaches that God created people as different nations and tribes not to hate or look down on one another, but to get to know each other and learn from one another.
Clinton cited this message as an important lesson in promoting mutual respect and understanding across religious and cultural boundaries.
Criticism of Religious Intolerance
The former president said he was tired of people being judged or attacked solely on the basis of their religious beliefs.
He acknowledged that wrongdoing exists among followers of every religion because no human being is free from flaws. However, he argued that the actions of a few individuals should not be used to condemn an entire religious community.
Clinton also expressed frustration with conflicts driven by religious differences and cultural divisions, calling for greater tolerance and cooperation.
Remarks Made at Campaign Event
Clinton made the comments during a gathering connected to the election campaign of David Jolly, the Democratic Party’s candidate for governor.
His remarks came ahead of the US midterm elections, as political leaders continued to address contentious issues, including religion, culture and relations between communities.
Debate Over Trump’s Comments on France
Clinton’s remarks also came amid debate over comments by US President Donald Trump concerning unrest in France.
According to the report, Trump had claimed that Paris would become a Muslim city in the future.
