Islamabad Police has stepped up preparations following the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s announcement of a long march, preparing equipment and supplies to block entry points and deal with protesters.
According to Islamabad Police, 210 containers will be required to close the city’s entry points, while more than 200,000 sandbags have also been arranged.
Tear Gas Equipment Arranged
Police have arranged 110,000 tear gas shells. The force already has 1,300 guns capable of firing tear gas shells, while an additional 500 guns have been ordered.
The police also have 22 cranes available to install and remove the containers.
Security Tightened in Red Zone
According to police, security has already been placed on high alert in the Red Zone and Extended Red Zone. Three routes leading to the Red Zone have also been sealed.
Police Reinforcements Arrive in Islamabad
Additional police personnel from other provinces have also arrived in Islamabad ahead of the long march.
