Islamabad: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain, strong winds and thunderstorms across the upper and central parts of the country until August 21, with intermittent breaks expected. Some areas may also receive heavy rainfall.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, monsoon currents are entering the northern parts of the country and are likely to persist over the coming days. A westerly wave is also expected to enter the upper parts of Pakistan from August 17.
Rain and Strong Winds Expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Most parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are expected to receive rain, strong winds and thunderstorms from August 17 to 21, with isolated heavy rainfall also possible.
The affected areas include Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Nowshera, Charsadda, Swabi, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Hangu, Kurram, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar and Mardan.
The southern districts of the province, including Karak, Tank, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu and Waziristan, are expected to receive rainfall on August 20 and 21.
Rain Forecast for Islamabad and Punjab
Islamabad and upper Punjab are likely to experience rain, strong winds and thunderstorms from the evening of August 16 to August 21, while isolated heavy rainfall is also possible.
The areas likely to be affected include Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Jhelum, Chakwal, Talagang, Attock, Sialkot, Narowal, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Lahore, Kasur, Okara, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, Sargodha, Khushab, Mianwali and Noorpur Thal.
Meanwhile, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Layyah, Bhakkar, Sahiwal, Pakpattan, Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur and Dera Ghazi Khan are expected to receive rainfall on August 20 and 21.
Rain Expected in Gilgit-Baltistan
Rain, strong winds and thunderstorms are forecast in Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche and Shigar from August 18 to 21. Intermittent breaks in the rainfall are also expected.

Sindh and Balochistan to Remain Hot and Humid
According to the weather department, most parts of Sindh and Balochistan are expected to remain hot and humid.
However, Musakhel, Barkhan, Zhob, Kalat and Khuzdar may receive rain, strong winds and thunderstorms from the evening of August 17 to August 20.
Landslide Risk in Hilly Areas
The weather department has also warned of a possible risk of landslides in the hilly and mountainous areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galiyat and Azad Jammu and Kashmir during the rainy spell.
The latest monsoon rains update is also important for residents in areas vulnerable to heavy rainfall and flooding.
Citizens are advised to avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather and follow the latest instructions and advisories issued by local administrations and the Pakistan Meteorological Department.
