Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary General Salman Akram Raja announced on Monday, October 12, 2026, that the party would challenge the imposition of emergency or governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in court.

Speaking to journalists at Parliament House in Islamabad, Raja said the party had the right to challenge such measures and would approach the courts within one day.

PTI Workers Arrested in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Raja claimed that hundreds of PTI workers had been arrested in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa so far.

He said the party would pursue legal action against the proposed measures, reiterating that challenging them in court was its right.

Dispute Over Negotiations With the Government

Raja also alleged that matters between Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had already been settled.

According to Raja, the prime minister had also said that the cabinet meeting would be postponed. However, during the meeting, the government contacted Maulana Fazlur Rehman by phone and informed him that it was proceeding with its plans.

Raja accused the government of changing the agenda of the negotiations, saying that the parties had never reached agreement on all issues with the government.

Call for Democratic Forces to Reflect

Raja said the developments should prompt all democratic forces to reconsider the situation.

He maintained that the government’s change in the negotiation agenda had undermined the process and reiterated the PTI’s intention to challenge the emergency and governor’s rule measures through the courts.
