The price of the Suzuki Cultus could fall by up to Rs. 500,000 under Pakistan’s proposed Automotive and Auto Parts Policy 2026–31, potentially providing relief to local car buyers.
According to the report, the locally assembled hatchback could see its price decrease from approximately Rs. 4.3 million to Rs. 3.8 million during the first year of the policy’s implementation.
However, neither the government nor the automaker has officially announced a revised price. The potential reduction will depend on the approval and implementation of the proposed policy.
PM Shehbaz Approves Draft Policy
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif approved the final draft of the five-year automotive policy on Tuesday.
The draft will now be submitted to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for approval. Following the IMF’s response, it will be presented to the federal cabinet for consideration.
Proposed Changes to Vehicle Taxes and Import Duties
The proposed policy recommends treating hybrid electric vehicles and conventional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles equally in terms of duties and taxes. The change could alter the existing tax structure for different vehicle technologies.
The draft also proposes reducing customs duty on conventional ICE cars and sports utility vehicles (SUVs) to 15% by 2031, without additional or regulatory duties.
These measures form part of a five-year plan to revise Pakistan’s automotive taxation and vehicle import framework.
Further Approvals Needed Before Price Cuts
The government plans to introduce legislation in parliament to implement the proposed tax rates after the policy receives approval from the IMF and the federal cabinet.
If implemented, the changes could affect vehicle prices across the market. However, the extent of any reduction will depend on the duties and taxes applicable to each model.
Car buyers will have to wait for the IMF’s response, federal cabinet approval and subsequent legislation before the proposed changes can take effect.
Until these steps are completed, the potential Rs. 500,000 reduction in the Suzuki Cultus price remains unconfirmed.
