Pakistan’s electric vehicle market is set for another major development as Bestway Automotive Private Limited (BAL) prepares to introduce three SUVs from Chinese automaker Geely. The planned lineup includes two fully electric vehicles and one hybrid model.
Muhammad Irfan Anwar Sheikh, Group Managing Director of Bestway Group’s non-banking businesses in Pakistan, announced the upcoming lineup during a media interaction in Lahore on September 15. The event was held ahead of Geely’s formal entry into the Pakistani market.
Bestway Automotive is Geely Auto’s official representative and authorised distributor in Pakistan. The company will initially import Geely vehicles as Completely Built Units (CBUs).
Two Electric and One Hybrid SUV
Geely’s initial lineup in Pakistan will focus entirely on new-energy SUVs. Two of the planned vehicles will be fully electric, while the third will feature a hybrid powertrain.
The company has not yet disclosed the names, specifications, or prices of the three SUVs. However, bookings for Geely vehicles are expected to open before the end of 2026.
Plans for Local Assembly
Bestway Automotive also plans to begin assembling Geely vehicles locally in Pakistan. The company has recently acquired an existing Completely Knocked Down (CKD) manufacturing facility, which it intends to use for local vehicle assembly.
The launch of the three SUVs will mark Geely’s initial entry into Pakistan. Bestway Automotive is expected to expand the brand’s local operations and assembly plans after its initial market launch.
Further details about the individual electric and hybrid models, their prices, and the exact launch dates are expected to be announced closer to the official market launch.
Long-Term Commitment to Pakistan
Muhammad Irfan Anwar Sheikh said the partnership with Geely reflects Bestway Group’s strong foundation and long-term investment strategy in Pakistan.
He noted that Bestway Group has built a substantial presence in Pakistan over several decades across sectors including cement, banking, insurance, packaging, renewable technology, and consultancy.
Proton Customer Refunds
Sheikh also said Bestway had taken responsibility for pending refunds owed to Proton customers and returned the money to those who had been waiting. He described the move as a goodwill gesture.
He further stated that after acquiring the Proton facility, the company had cleared the outstanding government taxes associated with it.
