An Islamabad anti-terrorism court has rejected police’s request for a 30-day physical remand of Imaan Mazari and her husband, Hadi Ali Chattha, ordering that the couple be sent to jail on judicial remand.
The two were arrested again in a case registered at Kohsar Police Station after the Supreme Court granted them bail and suspended their sentences. They were subsequently produced before the anti-terrorism court.
30-Day Physical Remand Rejected
Police requested 30-day physical remand of Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali Chattha. The court rejected the request and ordered that both be sent to jail on judicial remand.
The case was heard by Special Court Judge Abul Hasnat Muhammad Zulqarnain.
Supreme Court Grants Bail
Earlier on September 17, the Supreme Court suspended the sentences of Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali Chattha and ordered their release on bail.
The court granted bail until the final decision in the case pending before the Islamabad High Court. Both were granted bail against surety bonds of Rs. 200,000 each.
During the hearing, Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan remarked that both individuals are lawyers and that the court was respecting their dignity, while also asking them to observe courtroom decorum.
17-Year Sentences in January
Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali Chattha were sentenced to 17 years in prison each in January 2026 in a case related to social media posts.
The court had sentenced both under different provisions, including Section 9 of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA).
A few hours after the Supreme Court suspended their sentences, the couple was arrested again in another case registered at Kohsar Police Station and produced before the anti-terrorism court.
