Muzaffarabad: The Election Commission of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has postponed polling in several constituencies ahead of the third phase of the local government elections, while voting in the remaining constituencies will proceed as scheduled on August 10.
The Chief Election Commissioner confirmed that polling has been deferred in a total of seven constituencies located in Rawalakot and Pallandri. According to the commission, the decision was made after reviewing multiple requests, assessing the ground situation, and considering reports submitted by the relevant authorities.
In an official statement, the Election Commission said it had received several applications requesting the postponement of elections in certain areas. After examining the legal requirements and evaluating the prevailing circumstances, the commission decided to postpone polling in selected constituencies while allowing the electoral process to continue in others according to the original schedule.
Where Will Polling Take Place?
The Election Commission stated that polling in four constituencies will be held on August 10 without any changes, and all election arrangements are being finalized to ensure a smooth voting process.
Meanwhile, the political contest has drawn significant attention in three constituencies of Bagh district and one constituency in Haveli district, where the electoral race includes the incumbent Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir and two former prime ministers, making these contests among the most closely watched in the third phase of the elections.
Election Commission commitment
The Election Commission reaffirmed its commitment to conducting free, fair, and transparent elections in accordance with constitutional and legal requirements. It emphasized that all decisions are being taken in the public interest while ensuring the integrity and transparency of the electoral process.
The commission also urged voters, candidates, and political parties to comply with the election code of conduct and cooperate with election authorities to ensure peaceful and orderly polling.
