ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former prime minister Imran Khan reportedly told his sister during a meeting at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) that he was being subjected to mistreatment and torture in prison.
According to his sister Dr Uzma Khan, Imran Khan repeatedly said that he was being treated unjustly and that he was being tortured. He also complained that for the past 10 months he had not been provided with reading material or a television and that prolonged lack of human contact was affecting his wellbeing.
Khan’s reported remarks come amid growing concerns over his prison conditions and medical treatment. His family and party have repeatedly raised concerns about his health and access to doctors and family members. The Supreme Court had recently ordered that he be taken to hospital for a medical examination and allowed greater family access.

Medical Examination at PIMS
Dr Uzma Khan said that Imran Khan was taken to PIMS Hospital instead of Shifa International Hospital, where he underwent only a brief eye examination and a blood-pressure check. She claimed that blood tests were not conducted and that the family was not provided with details of the medical examination or the identity of the doctor who examined him.
Independent reports confirmed that Khan was taken to PIMS after authorities cited security concerns surrounding the original plan to take him to Shifa International Hospital. A medical team subsequently declared him fit and he was returned to Adiala Jail.
Khan Complains of Lack of Human Contact
According to Dr Uzma, Imran Khan repeatedly told her that he was suffering because of prolonged isolation and a lack of human contact.
She said Khan told her that another doctor had previously explained that his health could deteriorate because of the absence of regular human interaction.
The claim comes against the backdrop of reports that Khan has spent extended periods in restricted conditions since his imprisonment. His family has repeatedly called for greater access to him, his doctors and legal representatives.
Sister Meets Imran Khan at PIMS
Dr Uzma Khan said she met Imran Khan at PIMS after authorities brought him there instead of Shifa International Hospital.
According to her account, she asked why he had been taken to PIMS and was told that the purpose was to conduct a follow-up examination of his eyes.
She said the area was extremely dark when she arrived and that she could only see some people in the darkness. She added that she did not know the exact time because family members are not allowed to carry phones inside the jail during visits.
Imran Khan Embraced His Sister After Months Apart
Dr Uzma said that after being taken through the hospital, she was first seated in an office and was later taken upstairs to a room where Imran Khan was waiting.
According to her, when she entered the room, Imran Khan stood up, embraced her and told her that he was meeting his sister after 10 months.
She said the meeting was emotionally significant because of the prolonged restrictions on family contact and the circumstances surrounding his imprisonment.
Khan Returned to Adiala Jail
Following the medical examination, Imran Khan was returned to Adiala Jail rather than remaining at a hospital for an extended period.
Reuters reported that the medical team declared him fit following the examination, while PTI and Khan’s lawyers criticized the handling of the transfer and questioned whether the Supreme Court’s directions had been fully complied with.
The development has intensified debate over Khan’s health, prison conditions and access to medical care and family members.
