The federal police have prepared a security strategy to restrict protesters traveling from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Islamabad ahead of planned political protests, with trenches and other barriers to be placed on key routes.
According to sources cited in local media, authorities surveyed routes connecting Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with the federal capital before finalizing the security arrangements.
Trenches Planned on Key Roads
The federal police have decided to dig trenches on highways leading from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa toward Islamabad. Trenches are planned on the GT Road to stop protest convoys, with 26 Number Chungi, Pirwadhai, IGP Road, Aswal Mor and Katti Pahari among the locations identified in the supplied report.
Other routes from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Islamabad will also have barriers installed. Authorities have further decided to fill containers placed on important Islamabad roads with bags of soil.
Soil-Filled Bags to Reinforce Barriers
Containers around the Red Zone will be filled with soil bags, while additional bags will be placed to restrict vehicle movement. Dozens of workers have reportedly been assigned to fill the bags, while trucks carrying soil are also being brought into the Red Zone.
Separately, reports published on September 20 said authorities had decided to place trenches and barriers on routes from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa amid preparations for possible political protests in Islamabad.
Government Says Roads Will Remain Open
Federal Information Minister Atta Tarar said no violent group would be allowed to enter Islamabad. He said the administration, police, interior minister and the government were clear about the security arrangements and that roads would remain open.
Tarar also said the Islamabad High Court had ruled out blocking roads and disrupting public movement, adding that it was the responsibility of the government and administration to ensure that public movement was not disrupted.
Junaid Akbar Announces PTI Protest Strategy
Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa President Junaid Akbar said the party would approach Islamabad through multiple routes during its planned September 27 long march.
Speaking at a workers’ convention, Akbar said PTI supporters would not use only one route to Islamabad and would also travel via the motorway, GT Road and the Margalla Mountains, with convoys also coming from Dera Ismail Khan.
He also referred to the previous protest and said participants would not remain silent after casualties. Akbar said, “Islamabad ko hum Somnath banayenge,” or “We will turn Islamabad into Somnath.” His remarks were reported by multiple Pakistani media outlets on September 20, 2026.

Security Concerns Ahead of September 27
The planned protest and statements by political leaders have prompted preparations by federal authorities and law-enforcement agencies for maintaining security in the capital. The government has said it will take measures in accordance with the law, while PTI has announced plans to bring supporters to Islamabad through multiple routes.
