PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has revealed that he was threatened with disqualification if he announced a long march.
Speaking to senior anchorperson and Geo News journalist Hamid Mir, Sohail Afridi said that what their “naive friends” were calling a deal was actually a threat.
He said, “It was not a deal; it was a threat that if you announced the long march, you would be sidelined and sent to jail.
Afridi revealed
Sohail Afridi further said that the office of chief minister was a trust entrusted to him by Imran Khan, adding that he was willing to sacrifice his position, his government or even his life for Imran Khan.
He said Sohail Khan Afridi says that some foolish friends who are talking about that deal, that deal was actually this: I was told, "Do not announce the Long March; if you do announce it, then you will be disqualified within a few days.” But I went ahead and announced it. Now, whether my seat goes or my life goes, I don’t care.
Aleema Khan dissatisfaction
Responding to a question about Aleema Khan’s dissatisfaction, Afridi said that Aleema Khan was a non-political person and was not aware of the facts. He said they would explain the facts and circumstances to her, after which she would be satisfied.
Regarding the announcement of the long march date, the KP chief minister said that all PTI leadership was on board with the decision. He said both the party’s central and provincial leadership had been consulted and that even their allies were on board with the decision.
According to Afridi, the date for the long march has been set for September 27, 2026.
He said the march would be held towards Islamabad as part of the party’s efforts in support of Imran Khan.
Recent reports have also indicated that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced September 27, 2026, as the date for its long march towards Islamabad, with the decision announced by KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and the party leadership.
