A man using a metal detector has discovered a gold bracelet believed to be around 3,000 years old in Wales.
The Bronze Age jewellery was found in Llanwchllyn, Gwynedd, North Wales, after Idris Thomas was searching farmland with a metal detector.
Discovery in North Wales
Thomas had been searching for only about 20 minutes when his detector signalled the presence of a metal object underground.
While digging at the location, he noticed something shining in the soil and discovered that the object was made of gold.
Thomas said he initially thought he had found a piece of tin foil. However, he was surprised when he saw the distinctive shine of gold.
Bronze Age Gold Artefact
Experts confirmed that the bracelet dates from the Bronze Age and contains approximately 92.8% pure gold.
Following an inquiry, the bracelet was officially declared treasure.
Estimated Value
Experts have estimated the potential value of the gold bracelet at between £15,000 and £20,000.
A researcher described the discovery as an exceptionally remarkable find.
Detectorist Surprised by Discovery
Thomas only took up metal detecting as a hobby two years ago.
He said he was extremely surprised and happy to have made such an unusual discovery and found it difficult to put his feelings into words.
