Saudi air defenses have destroyed a drone launched by Yemen’s Houthi forces that was reportedly heading toward the holy city of Makkah, according to the Saudi-led coalition.
The coalition said the drone was intercepted before it could enter restricted airspace in the direction of Makkah.
Saudi Coalition Warns Against Threats to Holy Sites
The Saudi-led coalition said any threat toward the Two Holy Mosques would not be tolerated, stressing that the holy sites are considered a “red line.”
The statement came amid heightened security concerns following recent threats and attacks involving Houthi forces.
Recent Alerts in Saudi Cities
Earlier on Tuesday night, warning sirens were activated in the Saudi cities of Jazan, Abha and Khamis Mushait over reported attack threats. The warnings were withdrawn after a short period.
On Monday, multiple ballistic missile and drone attacks by Houthi forces against Saudi Arabia left 13 civilians injured, according to the report.
Imam of the Grand Mosque Condemns Attacks
Chief Imam of the Grand Mosque Sheikh Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais said attacks by the Houthis on holy sites were contrary to religious and humanitarian values.
He said targeting holy sites was a clear violation of international law and stressed that Islam teaches the protection of human life, property and dignity while prohibiting aggression.
Al-Sudais also called for stronger national unity and solidarity amid the current situation. He urged the public to remain alert to rumors and obtain information only from reliable sources.
He said public unity and national solidarity were fundamental strengths in confronting threat.
