Another rabies case has been reported in Sindh, bringing the total number of cases recorded in the province to 23.
Karachi’s Jinnah Hospital confirmed rabies in a 27-year-old woman from Tando Allahyar. According to hospital officials, a stray dog bit her on the right ankle six months ago.
The woman reportedly received three doses of the anti-rabies vaccine after the bite. However, she was brought to the hospital at around 4:30 a.m. on September 12, with officials saying that she was displaying all symptoms of rabies.
What is Rabies?
Rabies is a dangerous viral disease that usually spreads to humans through the bite or saliva of an infected animal. Once symptoms appear, the disease can be fatal.
A bite from a dog or another suspected infected animal should never be taken lightly. The wound should be washed thoroughly with soap and running water immediately, followed by urgent medical attention.
Doctors may recommend anti-rabies vaccination and other preventive treatment. Receiving appropriate care promptly is essential to reducing the risk of the disease.
