Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said that Iran’s economic problems have multiplied following the war with the United States and Israel. He said declining oil revenues, higher import costs and the destruction of factories have placed severe pressure on the country’s economy.
According to Anadolu, Pezeshkian said that a decline in oil sales had affected government revenues, while the destruction of a large number of factories during the war had also reduced industrial production and tax collections.
He added that the government was now required to provide additional financial resources to help affected industrial facilities resume operations.
IRGC Claims 85% of Air Defense Production Capacity Remained Intact
Meanwhile, an official of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed that more than 85% of Iran’s production capacity for air defense systems remained intact despite the war.
Al Jazeera, citing Iran’s Fars news agency, reported that the Iranian official said production of missiles and air defense systems had not fallen below pre-war levels, while production in some sectors had actually increased. However, these claims have not been independently verified.
US Central Command Chief Visits Aircraft Carrier
Meanwhile, U.S. Central Command chief Admiral Brad Cooper visited the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier in the Arabian Sea during his 10-day tour of the Middle East.
According to CENTCOM, Cooper met with U.S. Marines and sailors aboard the aircraft carrier.
U.S. officials say more than 50,000 American troops are deployed at various locations across the Middle East.
The statements regarding Iran’s economic difficulties and defense production come as the U.S. military maintains a significant presence in the region, while the effects of the war continue to affect Iran’s economy, industry and trade.
