An Iranian missile attack on a US military base in Jordan damaged several American warplanes, according to US media reports.
The attack took place early Wednesday at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan. Informed sources told a US broadcaster that around eight F-15 fighter jets were damaged in the strike but were later returned to operational status.
A-10 Thunderbolt Also Hit
The attack also struck an A-10 Thunderbolt, widely known as the “Warthog.” The aircraft was disabled after losing one of its wings.
According to US media reports, more than 30 Patriot missiles were launched from the base to counter the Iranian attack. The United States is already facing a severe shortage of Patriot missiles.
Iran Says Attack Was Retaliation
The strike was part of a series of Iranian retaliatory attacks following US strikes.
The United States announced on Tuesday that it had targeted five Iranian oil tankers in response to an Iranian attempt to strike a US naval warship.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed that it subsequently targeted eight oil tankers, two warships and the US base in Jordan.
