Pakistani actress Mahira Khan made her debut at the Toronto International Film Festival, where she represented Pakistan and South Asia on an international cinematic platform. She also announced that she is expecting her second child.
As part of the festival’s Community Impact Programme, Mahira Khan hosted a discussion and received an award for her contribution to cinema and for highlighting underrepresented stories on the global stage.
Speaking to Images, Mahira said the Toronto International Film Festival had always been among the events where she wished to watch new films. However, at this stage of her career, she considered it more important to present Pakistan as a significant South Asian voice at an international forum.

Mahira Khan’s Festival Engagements
Mahira Khan’s engagements at the festival included attending the world premiere of the film “Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother.” The film is directed by Pakistani-origin filmmaker Bassam Tariq and features Oscar-winning actor Mahershala Ali.
Mahira is also scheduled to join Basam Tariq for a discussion on filmmaking, storytelling and South Asian representation.
The actress and Basam Tariq will further receive the “Muslim Excellence in Cinema and Art” award from the Muslim International Film Festival Toronto in recognition of their contributions to cinema and the arts.
Mahira Khan Announces Second Pregnancy
The most widely discussed part of Mahira Khan’s appearance in Toronto was her announcement that she is expecting her second child. She revealed that she would become a mother again after 17 years.
Her first son, Azlan, was born when she was 24 years old.
The 41-year-old actress said that her current pregnancy experience was completely different and more challenging than the first. She explained that physical and emotional changes at this stage of life have brought a mixture of happiness, fear, fatigue and sensitivity.
Mahira said she generally keeps her personal life private and had felt hesitant about publicly revealing her pregnancy, particularly when choosing an outfit for the red carpet.
However, she decided to embrace her present circumstances rather than hide them.
She added that people make many plans, but God’s plans are greater. Her current experience, she said, had taught her that sometimes it is important to accept life’s decisions instead of trying to control everything.
