Prime Minister’s Adviser Senator Rana Sanaullah has claimed that PTI is planning to bring armed groups to Islamabad on September 27 and attempt another May 9-like incident.
Speaking to a private TV channel on Thursday, Rana Sanaullah said intelligence reports indicated that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf was planning to bring armed groups towards Islamabad.
Intelligence Reports Cited
Rana Sanaullah said the reports were confirmed and warned that PTI could bring people who were not political workers under the cover of a protest.
He claimed that the preparations for September 27 were aimed at creating another May 9 incident.
He also said Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi was part of the coalition government but did not represent the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz.
Red Zone Protest Banned
The prime minister’s adviser said protests would not be allowed in the Red Zone under any circumstances.
He warned that if PTI marched towards Islamabad or Lahore, strict measures would be taken along the routes.
Rana Sanaullah also asked PTI leader Junaid Akbar to guarantee that not a single armed person would participate in the September 27 march.
Offer for Peaceful Talks
Rana Sanaullah said peaceful protest was a democratic right of every political party, but it also carried constitutional responsibilities.
He offered to help resolve the matter within the legal framework and said PTI should sit with the Islamabad administration to settle the issues.
He added that if PTI had not carried out the violent events of May 9 in the past, such strict restrictions would not have been imposed on the party.
Criticism of Interior Minister
Rana Sanaullah criticised Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, saying he was the federal interior minister but did not represent PML-N.
He said Naqvi had made an unrelated speech at a recent event and spoken about the system being destroyed.
According to Rana Sanaullah, Naqvi’s reference to a specific personality was completely wrong. He said he believed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif must have spoken to Naqvi over the statement.
New Provinces and Resources
Commenting on the debate over the creation of new provinces, Rana Sanaullah said the issue had been raised at the wrong forum.
He said Parliament was the only proper and legal forum for discussing the creation of new provinces. Those interested in the issue should bring it to Parliament, as suggested by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
Rana Sanaullah said PML-N’s main concern was not the creation of new provinces but the fair transfer of development funds and resources to union councils, tehsils and districts.
He also said the Pakistan Peoples Party had previously used the provinces issue for political gain.
