The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast the entry of monsoon winds into the country’s upper regions, with rain expected in Punjab and other upper areas from today through September 17.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert for the ninth and final monsoon spell. The weather system may increase the risk of urban flooding in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Faisalabad and Lahore.
Landslide Risk in Northern Areas
The NDMA has also warned of a risk of landslides in upper areas, Kashmir, Murree and the Galiyat region during the period of the weather system.
Strong Winds Damage Property in Islamabad
A stormy situation developed in the federal capital late at night, with strong winds causing trees to fall at several locations, including Margalla Road and Faisal Avenue.
The falling trees also damaged vehicles at some locations. A concert stage at the Sports Complex also collapsed due to strong winds.
Rain in Peshawar and Islamabad
Rain was also reported in Peshawar and surrounding areas. Clouds gathered over Islamabad early in the morning as the weather system continued to affect the region.
The NDMA has advised citizens and travelers to remain cautious during the period covered by the weather forecast and avoid unnecessary travel.
