Islamabad: The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) has introduced a new digital onboarding framework to simplify the process of opening accounts for people interested in investing in Pakistan’s stock market.
Under the new system, investors will be able to apply for stock market accounts digitally from the comfort of their homes. Applications for a Sahulat Account can be processed within one day, while a decision on an Investor Account application will be made within a maximum of two days.
According to the SECP, the new framework aims to make the investment process faster, more transparent and user-friendly, enabling more people to access the capital market.
Online Application Tracking Facility
The new digital system will also allow investors to track the progress of their account-opening applications. After submitting an application, users will be able to check its status through a tracking ID provided to them.
If an account-opening application is rejected, the relevant broker will be required to provide the applicant with written reasons for the rejection. The measure is expected to improve transparency in the account-opening process.
No Need for Repeat Verification
Under the framework, investors whose identities have already been verified will not be required to undergo the complete verification process again.
The facility is expected to reduce processing time and eliminate unnecessary steps for investors seeking to open an account.
The new framework will also allow digital onboarding and application processing to continue 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Target to Increase Number of Investors to 2.5 Million
The SECP says the digital onboarding system is expected to help increase the number of investors participating in Pakistan’s stock market.
The commission has set a target of increasing the total number of investors to 2.5 million.
SECP Chairman Kabir Ahmed Siddhu said increasing the participation of young people in the stock market is among the commission’s key priorities.
Expanding Access Through Digital Services
He said modern digital services can make it easier for young people and new investors to access the capital market and participate in investment opportunities.
According to the SECP, the new digital onboarding framework is an important step toward improving the investor experience, speeding up the account-opening process and promoting a stronger culture of investment in Pakistan.
